Healthy New Year’s Tartlets made with Mia & Ben!

The holiday between Christmas and New Year’s is the perfect time to get the whole family together for some good old fashioned baking! But your favourite treats don’t have to be 100% unhealthy. Check out some of the recipes below for some great ways use Mia & Ben pouches in your traditional favourites. First up, Healthy New Year’s Tartlets


Ingredients:

  • 125g butter, softened
  • 250g wholegrain flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • 2 dates (approx. 30g), finely chopped
  • 6 tbsp cold water

Filling:

  • 1 orange, peeled & finely chopped
  • 4 soft prunes, finely chopped
  • 1 date, finely chopped
  • 15 raisins (approx. 25g), finely chopped
  • ½ tsp orange zest
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp vanilla
  • 2x Mia & Ben Apple & Blueberry pouches

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oven to 200
  2. For the pastry/crust: Place flour, baking powder and vanilla in a bowl and stir for mixing
  3. Add the softened butter and finely chopped dates and mix thoroughly
  4. Let the pastry chill in the fridge until you have prepared the filling
  5. Peel and chop the orange. Place it in a bowl. Add the finely chopped dried fruit, spices and 2 pouches of Mia & Ben Apple & Blueberry and mix well
  6. Roll out the pastry mixture on a lightly floured surface. Choose a muffin tin of the size you want. Grease the muffin tin with oil or butter. Use the pastry mixture to line the pin holes. Cut the remaining mixture into stars
  7. Fill the pastry pins with two tablespoons of mincemeat and use the pastry stars to top the pies
  8. Optional: Use a little cold water to dampen the edges of the tart bases
  9. Bake in the preheated oven 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
